Knights of Columbus St. Ambrose Council 12576
Date – Feb. 1, 2023 – minutes of meeting Grand Knight Dan Deporter called the meeting to order at 6:30. Meeting started with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of previous meeting – approved by group.
Treasurers’ report– present funds – $21,244.97 Approved by Larry and 2nd by Bob.
Calendar of Future Events –
- Taco dinner in March. Steve Deporter is in charge. Larry will be helping. On March 4.
- Palm Sunday breakfast. Denny will be in charge. First Sunday in April.
- Raffle for ½ a beef would possibly start in Feb. and finish in March. Steve and Larry in charge.
- Men’s Cursillo – Feb. 23 -26. Women’s Cursillo – March 23 – 26.
Meeting discussion items –
Larry is in charge of the degree program(1st ,2nd & 3d). If you have a 4th degree and wish to purchase the uniform, there is a $200 loan you can apply for
Steve reported that there is good coverage for the rosaries.
Dave- Into the Breach- recruiting events. The closest is Feb. 19 in Galesburg at 2 on Sunday afternoon.
Tom Verschoore’s son will do landscaping around the flagpole as an Eagle Scout project. Tom is going to donate a half a beef for a raffle.
There will be donuts and coffee at St. Ambrose after the 8:00 Mass the last Sunday of the month.
Steve collected the donated diapers from St. Pats and St. Ambrose. He reported the diaper drive was successful.
Dave is retiring and is going to do service work in Cambodia for 5 years. Godspeed!
The Father McGinty Award was presented to the St. Ambrose Council. To achieve the Service Star Award rating members would need to attend seminars.
Craig made a motion that the Knights donate to St Jude’s in Jim’s name in recognition of his generous donations of food to meal sites and his support of K of C projects. The amount and how often will be discussed.
Automated external defibrillators for 2 parishes could cost over $4000. Dan will check for more information.
Dan mentioned several possible fund-raising ideas: raising sweet corn and selling parish clothing. Investing some of the council’s money in an account to acquire interest was discussed.
St. Pats is planning a Pancake Breakfast 11 to 1 on Palm Sunday. There will not be any conflict with St. Ambrose’s Pancake Breakfast.
