Knights of Columbus St. Ambrose Council 12576
Date – Jan. 11, 2022 – minutes of meeting Steve DePorter (filling in for Grand Knight Dan DePorter) called the meeting to order at 6:30. Meeting started with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes of previous meeting – approved by group.
Treasurers’ report– present funds – $20,917.83 Approved by Bob and 2nd by Tom.
Business items:
Brent reported 86 members and 60 associates. About $3500 in outstanding bills. Received $352 for nut sales. Approved by Bob and 2nd by Tom.
Calendar of Future Events –
- Diaper drive at the end of Jan. Steve and Jeff are in charge.
- New Men’s Cursillo – Last weekend in Feb. Thursday to Sunday at Christ the King.
- Possible prochoice dinner in Feb. Discussed a chili supper but a raffle was also discussed.
- Taco dinner in March. Steve DePorter is in charge. Larry will be helping. On March 4.
- Palm Sunday breakfast. Denny will be in charge. First Sunday in April.
Meeting discussion items –
Discussion over setting up a process for members to advance through the degree levels (first through third) at the local level.
Rosary – Steve monitors the rosaries. Chris DeMarlie is covering the St. Pat’s rosary. The 8:00 St. Ambrose rosary is covered, Denny said he would cover the 12:30 mass until he leaves at the end of Jan. on vacation.
At the last meeting, Tom Verschoore asked about possible suggestions for an Eagle Scout Award project for his son. After a discussion, members suggested landscaping around the flagpoles. Larry and Preston made a motion to help fund the project.
Having donuts and coffee at St. Ambrose after Mass the last Sunday of the month was discussed.
Tom reported that Poole (CDT Snow Plowing) will remove snow for St. Ambrose. They gave the best estimate and have provided good service in the past.
Motion to pay for playpen for diaper drive approved by members.
Dave encouraged more people to join K of C. Dave is retiring and is going to do service work in Cambodia. Godspeed!
Dave urged the council to support women who have had abortions. There was a motion to donate $300 to Rachel’s Vineyard. 1st by Larry and 2nd by Chris.
Preston suggested that the Knights donate to St Jude’s in Jim’s name in recognition of his generous donations of food to meal sites and his support of K of C projects. The suggestion was tabled to discuss the amount.
